WRITING & FILMMAKING

I am also an award-winning screenwriter, director and journalist.

My creations include the RTS-winning comedy sketch show Deaf Funny and documentary series Found (both of which I also directed), sitcom Four Deaf Yorkshiremen, dramas My Song and Departure Lounge, mockumentary Hands Solo, mini-series The Fingerspellers and viral shorts The Kiss and Coming Out.

I also wrote for BBC series including Waterloo Road (RTS-winning episode) Jimmy McGovern’s Moving On (Broadcast Award nomination), Casualty (BAFTA and RTS winning episode and Rose D’Or nomination) and created the deaf storyline and character played by Rose Ayling-Ellis for Eastenders.

Between 2021 and 2024, I was Drama Commissioner for Lumo TV, developing and executive producing a range of dramas and comedies made by deaf writers and directors.

My journalism includes writing for the Guardian and BBC Online and I have edited the deaf blog platform The Limping Chicken since 2012.
